Six Flags Great America Searches for Daring Diner to Break Cockroach-Eating World Record

Live cockroach is the ticket to the front of the line at Fright Fest this fall!

GURNEE—Six Flags Great America is preparing to scare up some fun this fall with its 16th annual "Fright Fest" Halloween celebration. And to put the "bite" in Fright Fest this year, a live cockroach will be guests' Ticket to Terror — and the front of the line!

Courageous volunteers who opt to chow down on one of these creepy critters will be granted an instant place at the front of the line for some of Six Flags Great America's most popular rides, haunted houses and attractions. Daring guests willing to eat their way to the front of the line will have to be quick! Cockroaches can run at a speed of three miles per hour. The nutritional benefit? Cockroaches are extremely low in fat and high in protein.

To introduce Six Flags Great America's newest dining option, the park is actively recruiting park guests willing to attempt to break the current world record for most cockroaches eaten. In 2001, Ken Edwards of Derbyshire, England devoured 36 hissing Madagascar roaches in just a minute. Brave souls with a tough stomach are invited to attempt to defeat Edwards in front of a LIVE park audience on Friday the 13th at 7 p.m.

If successful, the daredevil earns bragging rights and plenty of park goodies. Four 2007 Six Flags Great America season passes will give them and three friends unlimited access to the park throughout 2007, and four Fast Passes to the front of select ride lines will give them VIP status during their visits. Record-breaking hopefuls are encouraged to rally at the Mission stage in the Southwest section of the park on Friday the 13th at 7 p.m.

Season passes for 2007 purchased or won in October 2006 will be valid for the remainder of this year's Fright Fest event and the entire upcoming 2007 season.

Dates and hours for Six Flags Great America Fright Fest are Friday nights October 13 through 27; 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday hours October 7 through October 28 are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday hours October 8 through October 22 are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on October 29. The park is also open Monday October 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
