The Flying Dutchman was a Pinfari Zyklon model. But specifically what model is a bit confusing. There are four standard non-looping Zyklon models: Z40, Z47, Z64, Z78. The numeric portion of these model numbers is the width of the ride in meters. The Z40 and Z78 models have a lift hill that is placed diagonally through the center of the ride. The Flying Dutchman had such a lift hill and was clearly larger than the Z40 in size. Therefore it would seem this was a Z78 model, but it is believed only one Z78 model was built and it existed at Luneur in Roma, Italy simultaneous to the Flying Dutchman at Dorney Park.
The Flying Dutchman has been described as a one-of-a-kind ride so perhaps it was a custom Zyklon model. Comparing pictures of the Flying Dutchman to the Luneur Zyklon, the two appear very similar, but the pictures of the Flying Dutchman are not sufficient to be conclusive if the two are indeed identical.
The Flying Dutchman was sold to Coney Park in Jamaica. It was last thought to be in the Philippines or Singapore. |
